What is this?
Korean style is a global force. But the old guard of ggondae ain't gonna show it right — not with a K-pop approach, not with Arirang, not with their curated idea of pretty. K-style ain't ever been that. It's Old Boy. It's Squid Game. It's Parasite. It's always been the streets making shit cool. Global Korea is raw and real. That's what UNCUT SEOUL is here to document and show.

We'll handle the rest — the location, the eye, the editorial context that makes the whole thing permanent. One shoot. One neighborhood. One face of Seoul that didn't exist before you showed up for it.

So how does it work?
We match you to a neighborhood that fits who you are. You come to shoot, we do the rest — reading the space, reading you, and making a picture that lives at the intersection of your personality, the environment, and what Seoul actually looks like. No studio. No set. Because the street is the studio and every neighborhood in Seoul is the stage.

The Series
Format: One participant. One Seoul location or moment. One card. Foreign photographers. One globally Korean vision.
Locations: A curated mix of globally recognized landmarks and hidden spaces — chosen for visual power, cultural significance, and the argument each space makes when you put a person inside it. Seongsu-dong. Ikseon-dong. Euljiro. DDP. Seosunaralgil. Sewoon Sangga. And places that have no English name yet because no one has thought to look.
Participants: Seoul's most visually compelling style figures — a mix of established names and emerging faces, Korean and international, selected for aesthetic credibility and the courage to show up as themselves.
The Drop: THE KILL SHOT. A coordinated, simultaneous release timed to the moment Seoul style is loudest in the global conversation. Every photographer. Every participant. Every platform. At once.

장소: 글로벌하게 잘 알려진 랜드마크부터 진짜 서울을 아는 사람만 아는 숨겨진 공간까지. 성수동. 익선동. 을지로. DDP. 서순라길. 세운상가. 그리고 아직 아무도 찾아볼 생각을 못 한, 영어 이름조차 없는 곳들.
참가자: 서울에서 가장 강렬한 스타일을 가진 인물들 — 한국인과 외국인, 이미 알려진 이름과 떠오르는 얼굴들, 미적 신뢰감과 자기 자신으로 나타날 용기를 가진 사람들.
드롭: THE KILL SHOT. 서울 스타일이 글로벌 대화에서 가장 크게 울려 퍼지는 그 순간에 맞춰, 모든 포토그래퍼, 모든 참가자, 모든 플랫폼에서 동시에 공개됩니다.

Dr. Michael Hurt
Dr. Michael Hurt (@seoulstreetstudios) is Seoul's first professional street fashion photographer, with credentialed press access at Seoul Fashion Week for 30+ consecutive seasons — including first international press coverage of SFW for CNN in 2009. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley, teaches cultural theory and art at Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts), and is the founder and director of KARSI (Korean Advanced Research & Studies Institute). He has consulted for Google and Meta on Korean fashion and culture, and his major exhibition work spans as far back as In Transit (Seoul, 2005) and includes Harvard Graduate School of Design (2008) and Chau & Co. Gallery in Hanoi (2022) — the latter reviewed by the Vietnam Times. He has been shooting Seoul street fashion since before Seoul street fashion was something people shot — back when Roh Moo-hyun was still president.
마이클 허트 박사 (@seoulstreetstudios)는 서울 최초의 전문 스트리트 패션 포토그래퍼로, 2009년 CNN을 통한 서울 패션 위크 최초의 해외 언론 보도를 포함해 30시즌 이상 서울 패션 위크 공식 취재진으로 활동해왔습니다. UC 버클리 박사, 한국예술종합학교(K-Arts) 강사이며, KARSI(한국고급연구원 · Korean Advanced Research & Studies Institute)의 설립자이자 디렉터입니다. 구글, 메타 등 글로벌 기업들에 한국 문화 및 패션 관련 자문을 제공해왔으며, 주요 전시 이력은 《In Transit》(서울, 2005)까지 거슬러 올라가고 하버드 대학원 디자인 스쿨(2008)과 하노이 Chau & Co. 갤러리(2022)를 포함합니다 — 하노이 전시는 베트남 타임스의 리뷰를 받았어요. 서울 스트리트 패션이 '찍는 것'이 되기 전부터 서울 스트리트 패션을 찍어온 사람이에요 — 노무현 대통령 시절부터.

Chewy Thomson
Chewy Thomson (@floatationmarks) is a Canadian photographer based in Korea since 2012, with over a decade of immersion in the country's visual culture. He teaches photography and has exhibited work throughout Seoul — including two solo exhibitions in 2024 — as well as in Thailand and Indonesia. His editorial work has appeared in the Korea Times and numerous publications, and he has shot for major Seoul events including Block Party. His aesthetic runs bold, high-contrast, and cyberpunk-inflected — the visual register of someone who arrived in Korea and never stopped being astonished by what he found.
츄이 톰슨 (@floatationmarks)은 2012년부터 한국을 기반으로 활동해온 캐나다 출신 포토그래퍼입니다. 10년 넘게 한국의 시각 문화에 깊이 몸담아온 그는 사진을 가르치며, 서울 전역에서 작품을 전시해왔습니다 — 2024년에는 두 번의 개인전을 열었고, 태국과 인도네시아에서도 전시 경력이 있어요. 코리아타임스를 비롯한 다수의 매체에 작품이 실렸으며, 서울 블록 파티 등 주요 행사의 공식 촬영도 맡았습니다. 그의 미학은 강렬하고 고대비적이며 사이버펑크적 — 한국에 도착한 순간부터 이 나라가 보여주는 것들에 압도되어 멈추지 못한 사람의 시선이에요.
